Or if you rather not count screen brightness, then having too much darkness still cheapens the experience. I'd be more annoyed that I have to restart from something out of my control. I wouldn't even care if he grabbed me and caused a game over since I wouldn't be able to see the grab. Slender can be right in front of me and I wouldn't care because I can't see him. At that point, I can't be scared since I'm more agitated that I can't see where I'm going at all. There is a problem when I cant see Slender since the entire screen is black except the night sky which is midnight blue. There is a difference between including darkness and overdoing it and putting nothing but darkness for the sake of darkness. I hope you have found some enjoyment out my experiences. If anyone has made it this far, thanks for reading. Its stops being scary if I can't see the scare. Hai Slender, I know you're there but I can't see where you are since I have no idea where I am or where I am going or where anything is relative to my current position nor do I have an idea where my next destination is. When it runs out, the entire screen is nearly black and you can't see where you're going. On hardcore, the flashlight has a limited lifespan. The entire level is pitchblack except for a very dark blue/black night sky and a flashlight that was one shade away from black when it was on. Shadows! Flickering Lights! anything!Įxample: Slender the Arrival: Eight Pages level on Hardcore. Its also the reason why Resident Evil 5 didn't feel right at all.īut if the entire gd game is pitch black except the night sky, it stops being scary since I'm too lost to care about anything scary. The idea of the unknown coming at us when its more difficult to see. Most games and movies are so much better at creating a scary scene at night. Over relying on darkness to create atmosphere. What good is a jump scare if I know there is a jump scare coming but I have to wait 15-20 mins for it to occur?ģ. Not to be confused with random horror scenes that scare but have no impact on the story. Let it happen at a frequency where I'd care. I don't want to wait around to be scared. I don't want to be too busy looking for collectibles to care about whats going on.Įxample: Oh hai Slender dude, give me a sec and let me get back to you, I have to find this collectible page for the level. Collectibles during horror/survival/combat segments. Pet Peeves for horror/survival horror games.ġ. I think I liked it a lot but at the same time I disliked quite a few things about it. I could see most people holding out for $5 or less. (events add all of the playtime in this game and not in a good way. I'd be more inclined to say $10 tops for something with less than desirable graphics and a very short play time. The achievements are fair if it weren't for a certain something I mentioned above. I was able to phase through walls in multiple areas of the game and walk around non-playable empty areas. there are some massive clipping issues in this game. The journey is nice but the end result leaves more to be desired. You set out to find the truth of what is going on.īut I don't think the end result seemed like a proper video game storyline for a "protagonist". You are some person who has no idea what he is doing at a certain location or why everything there seems familiar to him. Yes, its a PC game but if its going to be ported over to the console at least make it feel natural to the console. The controls felt like it was designed for the PC and had no consideration for a Xbox 360 controller. I would have set Examine to RT and Inventory to X. X was to Examine things if I remember correctly, I don't remember since you don't actually really need it for the game. Its some of the last button allocations I'd even consider. RT brings up the inventory and RT closes the inventory. It doesn't feel right.ī button deselects the item rather than closing out of the inventory like most other modern inventory based games. I couldn't get used to the inventory screen controls. The next thing that I noticed were the controls. Its good enough to play but if they had more budget, this could have been a very beautiful and dark game. One of my favorite games for the xbox 360 was Deadly Premonition, so I'm in no condition to make jabs about graphics. Immediately after the music played and I started a new game. All luck and time based randomized events in one go? = terrible. but obtaining all events in one playthrough can be a massive hassle as you end up doing a lot of waiting around to obtain all events in an area. The events are good and add quite a lot to the atmosphere. *** Spoiler - click to reveal *** Events in this game are scenes that occur during random time period in specific areas.
